Helga’s Ephemeris Runology is a compilation of electronic experimental tracks that were composed, recorded and produced by Elena Stepanova between 1999 and 2006. Musically it is a mixture of electronic psychedelia, sound experiments and ethnic vibes. Theremin solos, weird sound effects, sci-fi and mystery themes, eerie synthesizer voices — all this makes Runology a captivating album and an intriguing listening experience.
The opening track, Runology I, is a mixture of electronic psychedelia and ethnic vibes. I believe it sets the mood for the whole album perfectly.
Dream No. 17 is… well, just a nightmare. Musically it is the result of one of those experiments with sounds I did in 1999. Conceptually it relates to a short story which I wrote in the early ‘90s.
Runology III, Feel You Near Me and Transformed Paths I are the results of my music ‘meditations’ (I do this from time to time).
For Those Without Wine is special. Basically it is a live ‘dialogue’ between a human and supernatural beings. Don’t be scared…
Clockwise was written for the play ‘Cello’s Spirit’ in the ‘90s. It is the main theme track, and hopefully it gives you an idea what the play was about!
Illusion is a short nice track that drives you to another dimension… for awhile. Then you get some more light with Transformed Paths II — and more darkness and tension with the second half of it.
Ephemeris Suite was written between 2002 and 2004. The original idea was to ‘picture’ the planets of our solar system, but, as the project progressed, the idea transformed into something quite different. And I dropped the first two movements for the sake of clarity! 🙂
